The Best Homeschool Science Curriculum For Hands-On Activities

Looking for a way to make science engaging and fun, that’s actually easy for you? This is the best homeschool science curriculum for hands-on activities.

For the past few months, I have really struggled to come up with new, hands-on activities for my youngest.

He loves science, mostly because we have taken such a hands-on approach to learning it.

Although he struggles with reading and other learning differences, science is a subject that is an area of academic strength for him. It’s one I want to continue to cultivate. It’s one I think is a great equalizer for him in the world of learning.

And, if I am being most honest, it’s a subject that has required more and more of me, as I scramble to find hands-on activities that make sense for his grade level and ability.

Hands-On Activities

After creating a summer learning plan that one can only describe as random (at best), I knew going into Fall and our new school year, I needed some help.

Trying to maintain progress and keep his attention while being confined to home all spring means I am flat out of ideas and creativity. Moreover, I just don’t have it in me to search Pinterest one more time for one more activity.

Hands-on learning has left me feeling a little burnt out.

The problem? My son still needs as many hands-on activities as possible in order to really comprehend and retain his learning.

The solution? BookShark Science.

Looking for a way to make science engaging and fun, that's actually easy for you? I think this is the best homeschool science curriculum for hands-on activities.

Please know, although I was compensated for my time in writing this post, I only share products that are a good fit for my family’s needs. It is my hope that they will help yours as well.

The Best Homeschool Science Curriculum For Hands-On Activities

Although I have used BookShark in the past, I didn’t realize they offered so much in their science program, particularly in regards to hands-on activities. I was blown away when I realized how well their program could work for our needs.

BookShark Science packages include books and kits to provide a literature based, hands-on approach to learning. This is an all-in-one science curriculum that literally does it all, so I don’t have to.

We are using BookShark Science Level H – Conservation, Robotics and Technology. Topics include energy, conservation, robotics, canals, dams and technology.

The program is filled with books, projects, experiments and activity sheets to make the learning that much more engaging and multi-sensory.

The best part? All of the non-perishable materials needed for weekly hands-on science experiments are included in the accompanying science kit. No more scrambling to gather all the necessary materials to create a hands-on science activity. It’s all provided, exactly as needed.

For example, we completed this lemon battery experience to try it out and see how BookShark Science really works.

After reading the associated chapter in one of the books, I literally pulled out the box of supplies, placed it on the table and walked away. My boys sorted through them, found what they needed and built a battery – all with no prep at all on my part. (Did I mention I am feeling a little done with planning all their hands-on activities? It was like a whole new world here.)

Each BookShark Science level is appropriate across several ages. For example this level, Level H, is recommended for ages 12-14. To my pleasant surprise, both of my children, my seventeen year old included, willingly participated.

I find the upper levels to be more mature and interesting for older kids – something that is very difficult to find when you are looking for hands-on learning opportunities!

Homeschool Science Curriculum For Hands-On Activities I am so relived and excited to have found this curriculum option. BookShark is allowing me to continue our strength- based, interest-led learning in a way that makes sense for my sons, and for me.

  1. Wow! I had no idea that BookShark had such comprehensive science options. This looks like it might be perfect for my 13-year old son. I’m SO over planning these days. I don’t know if it’s having two teens or the weariness brought on by COVID-19, but I would LOVE to outsource more for science. Thanks for this great info!
