Homeschool Consumer Math For High School: Master Books Review

When we think of high school math in our homeschools, algebra, geometry, and maybe even calculus are likely the first courses that come to mind. But there’s one math course that we often overlook despite being one of the most practical and life-shaping options: consumer math.

Personal Finance For Learning And Life

As homeschoolers, we have the chance to take a more flexible and practical approach to our children’s learning. In my homeschool, this has been most valuable in our approach to math.

In the younger years, it looked like baking together in the kitchen and real world learning in grocery stores. But as my children entered the high school years, I struggled to find resources that were appropriate for teens that taught the most important aspects of personal finance.

I graduated from high school knowing next to nothing about bank accounts, budgets, interest rates, and taxes. It was a significant gap in my education. So when it came time to prepare my own children for life as functional adults, practical, consumer math was a top priority.

Consumer Math And High School Credit

It was important to me that consumer math be just as much a part of my kids’ high school education as any other math class. The good news is consumer math can and should qualify for credit on your teen’s homeschool transcript. First, it is important to understand your state’s unique homeschool statutes and requirements. Most states have clearly defined expectations for awarding class credits in high school.

While I had hoped to find a consumer math option that would award an entire credit, at the time, I struggled to find a program robust enough to justify an entire year’s worth of learning.

That’s why I am so glad to introduce you to a brand new, high school consumer math program from Master Books.
