Finding a high school level science program can be difficult, especially if your child has learning differences. This online homeschool science curriculum has built-in accommodations that make it accessible and engaging for children who struggle with more formal programs.
My youngest son is headed into ninth grade this year. He is extremely interested in science, particularly biology, and has never met a science experiment he didn’t love.
As he begins high school, I have been considering various options for science that will challenge him, but also accommodate his various learning differences and needs. He needs a program that is appropriate for a high school transcript that will also account for his dyslexia and processing disorder.
I am finding it is definitely not easy to find!
Why Online Homeschool Programs Work Well For Children With Learning Differences
One of the places to start, when your child has a need beyond the traditional textbook approach, is online learning.
Consider the fact that learning online actually takes a far more multisensory approach than a formal method. The leaner sees the material on the screen and uses their hands for typing and clicking. If the program is really accommodating, it may also have an audio component built in – perfect for helping the struggling reader read along with the text on the screen.
Because of these benefits, I have been searching for online options for high school homeschool science.
Please know, although I was compensated for my time in writing this post, I only review resources that are appropriate for my own family. It is my hope that they may work for yours as well!
Fascinating Education’s Online Homeschool Science Courses
Fascinating Education is a new program owned and developed by Dr. Sheldon Margulies. A neurologist who has taught over 2500 medical students and residents, he is now turning his attention to younger students with online courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, and The Logic Of Medicine.
Here is what Dr. Margulies himself shares about the program:
In my curricula, I don’t just teach. I explain, in plain English, one step at a time, using images that I’ve created and narrate. I want students to see exactly what I’m saying and for today’s students, who are so who are so comfortable with audio visual learning, narrated images are a great way to learn science.
Learning is not memorizing. I want students to use what they learn to ask questions they may not have even thought to ask – like why glass shatters when you hammer it, but a nail bends, or how geckos are able to climb walls and ceilings.
The hope is that the student never gets discouraged and is always succeeding.
With this in mind, I was encouraged to give Fascinating Education’s Biology course a try!
