The Dad Podcast

We recently had the honor sitting down with Mick’s friend, Justin, for his “The Dad Podcast”. Although Mick does this kind of thing all the time and I have been a public speaker for years, it was completely terrifying.

First of all, this podcast will live on in internet land FOREVER. That means anything we said, my little ones will likely one day hear.

Secondly, we have an obligation to protect and respect these boys’ in a way that positions them for success. Providing a public label does not seem to necessarily be the best way to achieve this goal.

Finally, truthfully, I never thought we would be in a position this early in the spectrum game to share anything that is actually helpful to anyone. We just started this journey people. I have said it before and I will say it again – we have no idea what we are doing.

The response has been amazing. Maybe the reason is simply that we have no idea what we are doing. Maybe it’s better to hear about something as complicated and loaded as autism from someone who really has no clue. Maybe it’s easier to hear it from a mom, instead of a doctor/therapist/teacher/nutritionist/expertofanykind. And maybe, just maybe, we can learn from each other as we go.

And so, here it is – our super public, crazy scary, first recorded for all to hear conversation about the realities of parenting a child with Aspergers.

The Dad Podcast –  Episode 82: Parenting with Aspergers

P.S. Thank goodness my husband was there. Not only is he the extrovert, he is also incredibly supportive of exploring how to turn this wild ride into something practical and purposeful. That, and he is really funny. And cute.
