That Voice

That voice you keep hearing…

You know the one.

The voice that whispers, “You can’t do this.”

The voice that says,  “You are failing your kids.”

The voice that asks you, “Why try at all?”

The voice that points out the mess, and blames you for not being a better house keeper.

The voice that points out your child’s poor behavior, and blames you for not being a better parent.

The voice that points out the meal plan that wasn’t followed, the budget that was exceeded, the laundry that wasn’t folded, and makes sure you know how bad you are at this.

The voice that steals your joy.

The voice that makes you want to give up and go back to bed.

The voice that paints your entire life an ugly shade of gray.

The voice that says you are not cut out for this motherhood gig.

The voice that says your kids will never learn to  sleep through the night, potty train, read, drive, live independently, be functional adults, take needed medicines, or shower regularly because you are so bad at this.

That voice?

Don’t listen to it.

Pray against it.

Scream back at it.

Wrestle it to the ground and punch it.

Take that voice and send it packing.

Because a momma has no time for a liar, a distraction, a bitter control freak like that voice.

A momma has important people to fight for, to love, to teach and to enjoy.

So let’s call that voice what it is.

That voice you keep hearing that says it
