Party Planning And Thank You Notes For Kids

I have plans to leave with a friend overnight later this summer. I seriously can’t wait.

Time to just be a girl and sleep? I could cry right now just thinking about it.

The only thing that I am dreading is leaving my son. He is already anxious about it. For weeks he has been asking me when I am leaving and can I please not go.

I brought it to his therapist’s attention. “Please help us,” I thought as I sent her the email.

Please know, although I was compensated for this sponsored post, all opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Yesterday, my son ran out of this therapist’s office with an enthusiasm and excitement I haven’t seen in a long time.

I’m going to have a party,” he said, beaming. “And I won’t be as anxious when you leave next month because I will be having so much fun getting ready for it.

His doctor looked at me and smiled. “I think we found an interest that we can use to help him.”

All the way home, we made plans.

We covered food and games first.

Then, the guest list was easy. My son basically wants to invite everyone on the planet.

And I want to send out invitations, Momma. Real ones. This is very important.”

Although it seemed like a bit much, I knew that this party was a step in the right direction and a real part of our therapeutic approach to his separation anxiety disorder.  So, with a limited budget, I went online to find some easy invitations.

What I found was Basic Invite.

Basic Invite is an online source for custom stationery.

Among their offerings of baby shower invitations and elegant birth announcements, Basic Invite also has a ton of options for just about every stationery need you can think of – including a ‘random, help me not be anxious when my mom leaves me’ party.

In fact, here is the company’s description.

Because I need something truly different for my son’s unusual party, Basic Invite is an obvious choice. In addition to being fast and user-friendly Basic Invite also offers:

  • Almost Unlimited Colors – Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design, you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options so you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it, down to the littlest detail.
  • Custom Samples – You can order a printed sample of your actual invitation or card so you can see exactly how it will print, as well as the paper quality before you have to place their final order.
  • Over 40 Different Colors of Envelopes – Make your envelope stand out!  All envelopes are peel and seal so the envelopes can be quickly and securely closed.  Time saver!
  • Free Address Collection Service – Use the free address collection service to request your addresses with just three simple steps. Share a link, collect addresses, and get free envelope printing.

My son loved being able to create with abandon on the Basic Invite site (and I loved calling it both art, and writing for the day!).

Thank You Notes For Kids

After finalizing the invites, I am also planning to order customized thank you cards for my boys. Because they both struggle with learning differences that make hand writing very difficult, we are really, really bad at sending thank yous.

I want this to change.

I want my boys to know how important it is to express gratitude. I think a custom thank you note or card would eliminate some of the challenges they face, while still communicating the expectation that we formally thank others when it is appropriate to do so.

Plus, it makes it so much more fun!

I’ll let you know how my son’s party goes!

In the meantime, you can find special offers and deals (and tons of inspiration) at Basic Invite’s site.

  1. My sons also struggle with writing. For their Bar Mitzvah Thank You notes we created a 4×6 card/stationary (using a local print shop) and a template on the computer. They composed the notes on the computer, printed them out, and then signed them by hand. It worked well by both making the task less daunting for my sons and getting a legible letter for the recipients.
