Can An Online Homeschool Really Take Care Of Everything?

A few weeks ago, I was asked a question by a new to homeschooling family . The more I thought about it, the more I realized I have the same question.

Can An Online Homeschool Really Take Care Of Everything?

As my son gets closer and closer to the end of his high school years (moment of silence for his mom, please) I find myself looking at every option possible to best prepare him for his post-secondary life.

Although in the past, he has been mostly interested in pursuing a few trade school options, this semester has brought an increased interest in researching four year college options – especially online college options.

In an effort to help him gain more of an understanding of what online school is really like, I also found myself wondering about this option for my youngest.

Both of my children respond very well to video based learning. They both navigate a computer with a confidence and speed that makes their mom jealous.

They both have done well with one or two online classes in the past.

What would it be like to have an online option that really did cover everything?

Please know, although I was compensated for my time in writing this post, I only share options that I think will genuinely work for my family. This is in the hopes they may work for yours as well.

Is Personalized Learning An Option In An Online Homeschool?

My main concern in researching different online programs, was finding something that would allow an individualized, even interest-led (if at all possible) approach.

Then I discovered Study.com.

I was familiar with the site, because of the wealth of resources they provide for college test prep and planning.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Study.com has thousands of course options, starting at 3rd grade and extending all the way through high school and beyond.

Study.com lessons are video based, and also include quizzes, transcripts of the lessons and other offline learning options.

(Many of you know how obsessed my son is with Cold War History. You know we started with this course!)

Although there are thousands of course options available, Study.com makes it incredibly easy to find the courses you are looking for. You can sort by grade level, subject, and even goals like “transferable credit” and “test prep.”

Is it possible to individualize learning online? It is on Study.com. They have a custom course creator, where you can easily design your own course, complete with it’s own name, added chapters and lessons you personally select for your child’s learning needs.

I am amazed at how complete this online option is, especially for families looking for an online homeschool that will do it all.

Similar to an all in one boxed, hard copy curriculum, Study.com provides everything you need to homeschool across multiple ages.

This includes teacher resources, and all subject material necessary for 3rd – 12th grade learning. (They even have Test Prep and Professional Development for the years beyond our homeschooling journey.)

And, from my boys’ perspective, best of all – they have an app!

I am impressed with everything Study.com has to offer and I wanted to share it here, for families in need of online homeschool support.

This is an example of one of the video lessons, just to give you an idea of how thorough and engaging this learning can be.

If you are looking for a complete online homeschool option, Study.com can help!
